I got Google TV and Apple TV; in the latest version some things are far better done in Google TV vs Apple TV, but I do like the ATV more as a interface, look & feed.

The sheep thing is so insulting. Just acknowledge it’s best. Anything outside of that is a stubborn resistance for no reason.
It’s by far the best tv experience. I travel everywhere with mine - just completely bypass all inferior experiences.
the only con is no 100% audio pass through.
Apple TV is the best. I’ve removed the Nvidia streaming boxes as I was sick of the issues and the boring Android skin. Apple TV is flawless
These types of posts remind me of people who buy $200 Windows PCs and then many years later buy a $2000 MacBook and proceed to compare them as equals. I love my AppleTVs too, but to say that AndroidTV is garbage when it came built into the TV is a bad approach.
This could be a post made by myself.
Apple user since iPhone 4s, and since then using loads of their products, physically and cloud.
Meanwhile a movie/serie addict, apart from downloading new(er) content (in a bad boy - way) i also used streaming apps on my 2016 old 60" TV. Always found it to be crappy.
Recently just tried AppleTV, and since then i do not use my TV with anything else; fast, high quality image, easiness of use, its wonderful for a decent price. I heard the new version will be even cheaper, coming first half of 2024.
Only issue is that homepod / my own soundbar isnt really working hand in hand together. Its a bit of a headache, but other than that its totally worth it.
I have an Apple TV and is great....but better image and lag is not an Android problem, is a hardware problem. You can't go smoothly on a crappy hardware... But besides Nvidia shield there is no other alternative in quality terms against Apple TV.
I bought it yesterday after so many lag experiences from current smart dish box from 2019. I had to watch so many videos regarding apple tv 4k usage and perks and all.
ATV is great, but I really hate the remote
Real Apple sheep doesn’t need convincing
Just don’t try to playback any high quality audio codecs, and you’ll be fine. I miss my Apple TV so much, but not enough to give up my DTS-HA Master audio or TrueHD ATMOS
Lol I'm android for most everything but I love my Apple TV, nothing android comes close imo.
Great. Now go watch Silo and See. And Ted Lasso
Welcome! Next step is just getting some HomePods to pair with the Apple TV lol ;)
Also abt the remote not breaking, that is true! But watch out cause that remote will break other things lmfao. It fell on my MacBook and chipped the top of it 🥲only mark I have on my Mac too smh
I started the process of upgrading from a Roku TV by purchasing an Apple TV to give me more time to wait for TVs to go on sale and came to a similar conclusion.
Now I look at smart TVs as simply TVs again.
Well I mean sounds like you didn't have a very good AndroidTV as there isn't lag if you have a good device.
The difference is for Apple OS its only ever on flagship products where as Android will end up on anything since its essentially open source.
We use Apple TV in our house ever since they finally gave a better remote option though.
I’ve only had the first and second gen 1080p Chromecast but contents on the Apple TV definitely look better than those two, even better after you’ve calibrated using your iPhone.
My favourite Apple product
Check out these settings. Made a big dIfference in viewing my 5-year-old Samsung 55"

They’re fantastic and addicting. I now have 9 of them and my first one from 2017 still works as good as the day I got it.
Heck even the OG Apple TV was better than anything else out there. You should’ve seen my sweet dorm apartment setup with 1st Gen ATVs and AirPort Express.
AppleTV is the only way right now. Smooth, snappy, lots of up to date apps.
Same experience here with Android TV and lag. I have a slightly older Bravia, but the lag has always been there even though the updates for Android & firmware are always regularly updated. It was definitely not my WiFi creating the lag. I was quite happy when I got my TV about 6 months ago.
On a side note, I also have 2 Roku 4K streamers and they are a close second. The TV UI is slightly better if you are in the ecosystem. Like yourself, I have been using some of their products since the iPhone 3G.
One downside of Apple TV is that there is no option for video speed up on Netflix :(
apple sheep?
One thing about ATV that is annoying is that with some streaming services HDR features are not supported as well as on Android-based TVs and devices including FireStick. With Peacock HDR automatic matching is not supported on ATV. On the Fox Sports app HDR is not supported at all on ATV. It’s annoying.
- you had a bad android tv.
- apple tv doesn't work with really any audio formats and limited dv formats
- on a good android tv box the picture would be better than the apple tv
this post could literally be me.
I've had an amazon fire tv stick for years, and kept buying a new one on sale because they all started to getr slow and laggy quickly.
2 weeks ago i bought a second hand apple tv HD for 35 bucks and despite its age its still wayyy faster than a new fire tv stick.
lets not even start to mention how good it is combined with an iphone and/or home pod
Well you are there now. Don’t live in the past. Don’t limit your Apple experience to just Apple TV. Enjoy!!
Not sure if OP or anyone else needs to see this, but download JustWatch to get an easy to navigate app where you select the streaming services you use, and it aggregates all the titles and shows that are available to you to watch. It has changed the way I find new things and makes it super easy to search for where to find something I’m looking for.
I’ve only ever had AppleTV. Whenever I use a different device in AirBnBs, I scream and can’t believe people deal with crappy Roku/Firestick/AndroidBox/etc.
Have you watched Apple TV+ yet?!?
It really is a wonder
Not enough quality shows On it
although I agree with you and i have an ATV 4K2 myself, i also got a Google TV with Chromecast as a 2nd device. the GTV is best at playing youtube (am not a premium sub) and offline videos from a FAT32 storage. for all other purposes though, ATV is the best 👍
Make sure you check out the remote learning for volume if you haven’t already. I was still using two remotes until last night haha (I assumed my tv and amp were too old to be compatible but it works perfectly)
No more crappy remote. Hahahaha. This thing gets lost so often and the trackpad is so annoying. Get yourself a silicone case with the lanyard and just use your phones remote app.
The most fundamental thing that sets Apple apart from Android. Apple's seamless experience is because they do their own hardware and OS...plus they have their strict app devs guidelines. Android being open is sounds great but that Android as an OS has been fractured from the start because everyone and their moms wanted to put their own spin on the OS for THEIR hardware. I want tools and appliances to work efficiently and as intended.
I been thinking of getting an Apple TV for the longest of time (being a hardcore Apple fan that owns at least one device from the Mac, iPhone, AirPods, Watch, iPad and HomePod lineup). What else can it do besides streaming stuff?
Pretty much the same for me. AndroidTV/GoogleTV has been a mess since the first time I used it years ago. Whether through a built-in OS on a TV or through Chromecast w/GoogleTV. I have an iPad and a Mac Mini. I don't know why it took me until the AppleTV 4K 3rd generation to buy one.
The lag with AndroidTV/GoogleTV is more than annoying. Whether it's with the OS loading when turned on, or when scrolling, or when opening apps... it's more than enough to piss me off. AppleTV's OS is super quick, snappy, fast to load on first boot, apps open lightning quick, scrolling is buttery smooth, and picture is far superior to that of AndroidTV/GoogleTV.
I recently got a new Hisense 65" U6K TV. It has GoogleTV OS. Upon initial set-up, I signed in to GoogleTV just for the purpose of getting the TV ready to use. I installed none of my apps on GoogleTV. Once up and running, I plugged in my AppleTV 4K and set the TV to open on "last used input." So when the TV is turned on, it opens directly to AppleTV.
On a side note... while ROKU TV is not as good as AppleTV, it's a relatively close second. The ROKU TV Ultra is being used on my bedroom TV. Bottom line, AppleTV 4K is a joy to use. I could never see myself returning to the mess that is AndroidTV/GoogleTV.
It's the best steaming device and has been for many years. I got the first gen Apple TV in 2010 and never looked back. I've used one ever since.
I felt the same way in the beginning… Now it’s just endless issues with audio being sent to the soundbar. Dolby Atmos doesn’t seem to work, plus the Apple TV 4K CONSTANTLY restarts by itself. Not sure if I got a dud, but taking it back to see if it can be repaired or replaced. (only purchased a few months ago). None of these issues were present in the beginning.
Damn. You just talked me into it. I just pulled the trigger with AppleCare.
Apple TV + is great love the quality of the content what it lacks in is variety it makes up in quality big time.
New one will only be $100 in May. I’m waiting for that & improved vpn support.
I got Sony xr 48a90k on Black Friday, and was looking forward to simplifying my setup. Thought I could use built in Google TV as it has Apple TV app and everything else. Google TV interface is ugly but I was going to swallow it just to make things a bit simpler. After one week of slow navigation and restarts I gave up. I reset the TV to remove Google account (apparently, you cannot simply sign out) and upgraded my Apple TV HD to 4K model. So, welcome back.
Second this! I really don't understand how Apple fails in marketing this piece of streaming miracle.
Always thought it's just a overpriced FireTV stick / unnecessary in combination with smart TV. Got a refurbed one two weeks ago as replacement for a FireTV stick because of the new ads. And i am buffed how smooth everything is. Also forgot that my bedroom soundbar has virutal surround as the FireTV never made use of it.
Ordered another two (1x refurbed, 1x new) for my living room and my parents last week.
