Good morning, fellow sobernauts, IWNDWYT, 😁!

We may be anonymous strangers on the internet, but we have one thing in common. We may be a world apart, but we’re here together!

Welcome to the 24 hour pledge! I’m pledging myself to not drinking today, and invite you to do the same. Maybe you’re new to c/stop drinking and have a hard time deciding what to do next. Maybe you’re like me and feel you need a daily commitment or maybe you’ve been sober for a long time and want to inspire others.

It doesn’t matter if you’re still hung over from a three day bender or been sober for years, if you just woke up or have already completed a sober day. For the next 24 hours, let’s not drink alcohol!

It's 1715 on the 3rd

I'm doing Ocsober

I've only told a couple of people, and only so that I have someone other than myself to answer to

It's not actually difficult, but it's tedious

I really enjoy drinking. Wine goes with food so divinely, and a sunset is better enjoyed outside with a beer. I'm even going to be watching a couple of major rugby games without a beer to enhance the joy

But drinking has become such a habit that I need to make sure that I can go without

I did about six weeks dry this time last year

I don't sleep any better, I don't feel healthier

I just miss one of my favourite pleasures

But, I will do it, just to prove to myself that I can.

When I was just stopping drinking "just for a month, yeah, see what happens?" it was May. Cricket season in the UK. "Can I do, sober, the things I used to do with a glass in my hand?"

Turns out I can. I found some good non-alcoholic alternatives for the glass of wine with dinner (I like a high-end fermented tea/kombucha that doesn't hide the flavour of the tea with additions like fruit). Lord's lets you take your own drinks in so that was handy.

There's some really interesting AF beers out there now, too.

I'm guessing you're in Australia, from your time zone? These go well with food https://www.non.world/
