I disagree. Those aren't spots, it simply has vertical and horizontal black stripes!

    They are black with white stripes. You can look it up, or you can just look closely at a zebra. I wouldn't recommend the later outside a controlled situation with protected contact though. Zebras are assholes. There's a reason they haven't been domesticated.

    I always imagined Zebras with white base and black stripes. This looks as if it has always been white stripes on black base.

    The controversy has always been: Is a Zebra white with black stripes, or black with white stripes? Most people would say it's the first one, but since the mutation affected it by turning the white stripes into spots, this seems to indicate that the second one is correct.
