So RN now almost have as many seats as the Communists, almost (19 vs 14). Or to put it another way, 14 seats out of 348

I mean it's not great that they have ANY seats, but I'm not connecting the headline with the facts

RN is weird, on one hand they had very little Senate presence, on the other it’s a bunch of elections that they end up in second position at the national elections. So in the lead up to the national elections a lot of eyes are on them.

I’m no expert, so I hope someone else could come in and bd explain it better.

It's been the whole thing of Macron, to give them presence and importance. You can always count on the "moderate" parties to kiss the ass of the nazis until they win.

Not that Macron ever was moderate, but he said he was.

Why is it that all the coverage I see about France’s elections is about her? Is Jean-Luc Mélenchon the competition? He’s the only other person by name I’ve seen by causally reading about this topic.

Directed lobbying and funding. Big money talks, everyone else is silenced.

Every plutocrat on Earth is financing fascist propaganda and candidates. It's not a coincidence that they're all going mask off at the same time, or that every capitalist "democracy" is failing to acknowledge or respond to the threat.
