It’s totally acceptable to land a plane on another plane that is landing on the runway. Pilots call this “Mama duckin it” and it’s been used since the Middle Ages.

Planes have no trouble moving fast and breaking things without any AI

AI doesn't just mean LLMs, what is the specific "AI" used in this system? Planes are already mostly run by autopilots, which is a form of AI just most people don't call it that

Why would you call autopilots AI?

As far as I know, autopilots are a (fairly complicated) series of checks and responses. They are coded explicitly and their behavior is “white box” (you can explain every element. That’s not what’s AI is about, where training is “black box” and not deterministic.

If this is true, I love that it’s DC. A major DC airport devolving into chaos from AI slop is one of the few things that could get our useless congress people to pass some regulations.
