FWIW Nitter and XCancel are both run by right-wingers themselves, so I'm surprised they stuck around this long.

    I've never been a microblogger, but YouTube is this for me. It's maybe less of an existential problem with Twitter since alternatives are plentiful. Kinda starting to look like the solution is not watching online videos.

    I feel like (at least for the time being) at least you can view youtube privately, without giving them revenue. They are continually fighting this, but as far as I am aware they havent tried to sue NewPipe or Invidious (Vanced is exempt from this rule because they thought making crypto currency of Googles IP would end well for them)

    Twitter is owned by a known white supremacist who has been directly involved with ruining the lives of millions of people, in addition to the fact you literally can not access the platform right now unless you are contributing to them monetarily.

    My frustration is sort of on the flip side. You can get (most of) what Twitter offers elsewhere, aside from specific people and communities. With YouTube, the ways around the machine lead... Back into the machine, ya know?

    Some people can't handle change. They get used to a service (ex. Twitter) and rather than leaving when it completely falls apart, they will fight beyond what is reasonable to hold onto what they used to enjoy.

    Those people can't be helped until they finally realize that Twitter as they knew it is gone.

    why though? like. there are better services, there are services built almost exactly the same as twitter before the enshitifiation. Bsky + the various fedi platforms.

    i know like. why. people are resistant to perceived change, but theres clearly more change staying on the hellsite if you step back and examine it.

    its frustrating yk?

    Maybe they can't handle it.
    Ever had to do tech support for family? I can get logic like "[Feature description]. Check the box to enable the feature, or click skip to keep it disabled. You can enable the feature at any later point in the settings." and then they'll furiously yell "For fucks sake, but how do I turn it on? This stupid tech!"

    i know exactly what youre talking about and I dont entirely get that behavior either. I understand it, I know why it happens logically, but it feels like a lack of effort or caring to me. It feels like someone saying "just get me my fill I dont care about the consequences"

    Not better in terms of Metcalfe's Law.

    Not better in terms of instantly being able to engage with your whole prospective audience, not having to build an audience one Fedi server at a time.

    I say this as someone who has contributed money, servers, and PRs to alternative social media networks.

    It is better for the planet, its better for mental health, better for diversity, accessibility, open information, its better in every way but the fact people won't move. the argument of "well people aren't there so im not even going to try" is frustrating because it abstracts the blame of lack of users to the platform instead of the individuals who are refusing to even try.

    Naw, probably it works like everything else in Trumpistan: You have to go to the right club and spend crypto and hang out with pervy 50+ yo hedge managers and 18- yo girls. Then you mysteriously get a secret URL to the raw X feed, diplomatic immunity, and owe a favor to Vladimir Putin.
