The LLM didn’t ‘solve’ anything, it regurgitated a guess.
Stop attributing comprehension and agency to something which is intrinsically incapable of possessing it.

The goal, fully articulated or not, is to make it so easy to bypass the journey and the education that people loose the ability to do that part. Kill the need for educated and skilled people so everyone switches to AI and can’t switch back because the people that can do the work no longer exist. Always remember too that these tech guys look at the worst parts of sci-fi, fail to understand the moral of the story, and unironically think it’s the best goal.
AI didn't solve it. Mathematicians working for OpenAI who signed NDA agreements took these other mathematicians idea and developed into a more complete prove to market the company share value.
These OpenAI mathematicians might or might not used a LLM to more or less extension to develop this prove. There is no evidence on how helpful was the LLM to the whole process.
I’m still convinced this started out as a yacht race. And now it’s rolling downhill with a fuckton of force such that no one is stepping in the way.
Sorry didn't read the article but they did a 20M marketing campaign involving maths a couple of weeks ago and now this 15M euros one.. Where are they getting the money for this?
Yes, that's the way mathematics works. Progress happens incrementally from different contributors.
However the mathematicians don't usually go searching through colleagues private documents for sparks of inspiration, work through the night then claim the success as their own, denying contributions of others.
Are these the moron mathematicians who worked for Anthropic and brought this entirely upon themselves?
My apologies, it appears this stealing laurels is now a mass phenomenon by the slop fuckers. I was thinking of this incident: https://dnyuz.com/2026/09/10/an-n-y-u-mathematician-clashed-with-openai-over-a-1-million-proof/
The snag was that his collaborator is Levent Alpöge, a mathematician who works at Anthropic.
Dr. Buckmaster said since he and Dr. Alpöge had used both OpenAI and Anthropic tools, [..]
I wouldn't be surprised however, if the scientists mentioned in the OP also used slop tools to get into this situation. And if they did not, their work can't have been used - unless a peer shared it with the slop fuckers.
At this point, hiding from OpenAI and Anthropic is almost as hard as hiding from Facebook and Google. It doesn't matter if you personally Just Say No, when you have no way to control what everyone else in your circles will with your information.
For example, when you exchange phone numbers with someone, you don't know what apps on their phone have "contacts" access. Every fucking social media app they use now knows your name, phone number, and at least part of your social graph.
With AI, let's say you send someone an email. You have no idea what their email client will do with that. Microsoft won't fucking quit with AI integration. And even if they're using decent software that doesn't automatically funnel everything into AI, otherwise-sane people paste fucking everything into ChatGPT themselves. You cannot realistically protect yourself if you collaborate with anyone.
You are sadly correct. FB should have been smashed into bits 15 years ago for allowing their users to agree to share their address books.
All billionaires are a plague to this planet.
