Replace clean with “complete major projects” and this is me.

Not because I get my cleaning done, I just don’t care as much about that as getting my water heater installed (been trying to get to it since April!! Poverty-based-DIY is awesome!)

Just start with something small and it will snowball II.

This is real advice. I usually have to convince myself to just grab one or two things and put them where they belong, and that starts a chain reaction.

I also love advice from How to Keep House While Drowning (specifically about ADHD but helpful for anyone). There are five categories of things to be tackled in this order: 1) trash 2) dishes 3) laundry 4) things that have a place but aren’t in that place 5) things that don’t have a place.

For real. Two philosophies that really helped me were:

    1. be like water / judo it. If you're hot and cold, either kind of manic or just want to sit around, then don't try and fight that and be perfectly clean every day, just lean into your mania more and use that to not just clean / tidy, but to make some small improvement so that it's easier to clean / tidy next time.

    2. A place for everything, and everything in its place. Specifically tackling your point 5, but everything you own needs a dedicated place for it. The instant you buy anything, you should be thinking about where it's going to be stored. Once everything has a clear and defined place to go back to it's much easier to clean.

For me its less a lack of motivation and energy but FOMO/time.

I work 60 hours a week and shit's going on out there while I'm working I don't want to spend my limited free time doing dishes and laundry.
