Thoughts on this?

I'm in Europe (well, the UK) and I definitely want to see Europe develop as much of its own space industry as possible, so Europe doesn't have to rely on foreign billionaires or dictators for space services.

we are now in the growing phase. they will take proper precautions, and sell a line saying this is for the public good. maybe even sell a dream saying this is the first step to colonizing space

they will eventually pass the growing phase and reach the "milk it". this phase maximizes top executive wealth and typically introduces severe cost cutting measures. I don't want to get here. nationalize it now and make it government owned, controlled, and properly regulated

    It's amazing. Good for capitalistic competition, but I do wish we could all just work together as well.

    Maybe the Ariane rockets are publicly owned by Europeans? Funded by the European Space Agency, which I guess is paid for by European taxpayers. So maybe the ESA holds the rights to the Ariane rockets (while using a private company to have them built), but I don't know.

    Yes the German rocket in the article seems to be a private venture, not a public venture. Maybe it's good to have both. A public option means you don't need to depend only on profit-driven companies. But private options can reduce the cost of space access and stimulate the economy, providing good jobs.

    Ariane is an absolute shit show. Unfortunately the European space sector had gotten the bureaucratic rot which is always difficult to fight in government run entities.

    I despise the space sector being overrun by VCs, but we really really need something competitive to spacex in Europe, and ariane and vega will never be it. And unfortunately ESA (and definitely not EUSpa) are just not up to it currently. ESA are evolving though, and have made huge strides in adjusting processes and enabling more efficient development.

    (I work in the space sector, and I literally just submitted a bid to an ESA tender today 😅)
