I use purple Arch btw
post
still use the arch wiki. I'm on nixos btw
I'll be honest, all of the Arch memes I've been seeing lately feel like reposts from 5-10 years ago
Where did this stereotype actually come from? I'm genuinely curious. Because Windows users wouldn't know Arch from Ubuntu and to them, all Linux users are "I use Linux btw" types. And I don't think I've seen Arch users just randomly telling people they use Arch in Linux spaces. But it must've come from somewhere.
IDK if it's a thing elsewhere but it's been a running joke on Reddit and Lemmy for years mostly because Arch was the more popular, bare bones distro, i.e. you had to set it up yourself without a guided installer like Mint or Ubuntu, so was used as a signal to be like "I know what I'm talking about".
Ah that definitely makes sense. I think by the time I was experimenting with distros, things had probably moved on a bit. I can say from experience that using Arch just requires the ability to read, really. But it was probably more hardcore in its earlier days when the wiki wasn't as well formed yet.
I know this one: It came from the Arch users. No, really, they couldn't just help to not tell anyone. It's not just a stereotype, it was really that common.
Now why they couldn't help, is guessing, but I guess it is the first distribution, that people take pride in to install, after they tried Ubuntu.
Arch was the "elite" distro. Most people who weren't already very comfortable with the terminal were even able to use arch properly. Stuff like archinstall didn't exist back then and those that did were way inferior than what we have today. So using arch was like a "badge of honor" of sorts for many people who thought using it made them superior to disgusting ubuntu or mint users with their GUI installer.
It's just classic gatekeeping that you'll see in basically everything that comes with a passionate community.
I heard someone explain that it wasn't really that popular some time ago, so they would just say "I use arch btw" to get people to know the distro and apparently it worked
Or it's just bullshit and i'il never know
Meanwhile in Debianland....
I use Linux btw.
I don't really promote nixos unless it's for comedic purposes
I use Gentoo. I very much warn you against using Gentoo.
Same for nix. It's great and awesome, but you need to know that for 6months it will be pain.
Both NixOS and Gentoo are also addictive as hell, you poke just a couple of things β the next thing you know it's 3 AM two weeks later and you are recompiling your whole system trying to make it work with Wild linker or something along those lines, laughing maniacally.
Tried. Nice place, but i won't live in it.
Just made it through a technical interview without managing to say that I use Arch, btw. It is harder than you think.
What kind of a card game is UNO and why is drawing 25 bad?
Winning the game is accomplished by playing all your cards and being the first to run out of cards. You play a card by putting one down that matches the last card played by either color or number. There's other special cards too, like draw x cards, reverse direction, wild cards, etc.
You have to get rid of the cards
Does this get posted every day now?
I switched to Arch, when my last distro broke, but it still runs
pacman -Ss cardholder
