This action is designed to respond more quickly to peak demand and optimize the use of renewable sources.

The Cueto Battery Energy Storage System, in the eastern province of Holguín, will begin load testing in the coming days prior to its commissioning.

The facility, with a capacity of 50 megawatts (MW), requires approval and technical assistance from Chinese advisors to ensure the stability of the National Electric System (SEN).

The concentrator unit program already has a BESS system in operation in Cotorro, Havana, which provides 50 MW to regulate the grid and support the service in the event of contingencies in large generators.

With the progress of the installations in Cueto, Bayamo and the capital, the country expects to add 200 MW of regulation capacity to respond more quickly to peak demand and optimize the use of renewable sources.
