In Finland, nobody looks for cars before crossing the road, phone or no phone. This should be the default setting everywhere. This is also why Europe should ban self-driving cars which were trained on American roads and driving data.

Anything but holding the ecocidal narcissists responsible for the mayhem their pollution powered people pressers do, right?

As someone who only travels on two wheels, I can confirm that people wander into my protected bike lanes while scrolling and not paying attention all the time.

    Yes, agreed. Fuck cars.

But this is kind of an annoyance, though I can't claim definitively that it's enough of a nuisance to merit civil punishments. Having to slow down for two seconds to let the scroller pass really doesn't bug me that much. (It's when someone is sleeping in the bike lane that I get peeved.)

So, drivers can be more careless about pedestrians now.
Including pedestrians under influence, or with medical conditions.

    💯 blame a victim.

    "Could"?
Those people are a menace and a danger to others, if a car needs to make evasive maneuvers, it can result in even greater harm than just hitting the idiot jaywalker.
Fuck people who think they own the road, and don't think they have to pay attention, even when they enter bike-lanes or roads, or simply walk like they own the pavement, without regard for anyone or anything around them.

    Asshole.

We share the road, you're in a one-ton murderbox, and I am not. If I get hit, it is always your fault.

Come driving in Finland some time for an education in humility. Here, no pedestrian is watching for oncoming cars, phone or no phone.

What a moronic claim, when a distracted pedestrian suddenly walks into the street completely unexpected, that is 100% his own fault, and he is putting not only himself at risk, but also others.
You have clearly not been driving a car and experiencing this.
