A joint project to create wildlife habitats across Westmorland and Furness has been given a national award.

The Planting for Pollinators scheme, run by Westmorland and Furness Council and Cumbria Wildlife Trust, won The Bees’ Needs Award Champion title from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.

Since the project launched in 2023, 22 sites have begun their transformation into species-rich lowland meadows or pollinator-friendly community gardens.
