More than 50 offending image and video ads were published across Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, or Threads, according to Meta’s ad library data. Some ran as recently as this week.

Are you implying that everyone using Facebook is a pedo?

I've been flagging these on Facebook, which I have a blank account only for marketplace. Facebook NEVER does anything about it and I've been increasingly concerned. My reports get closed as "content does not break terms of use".

The things I see through Facebook ads are not necessarily ai generated. They are just disgusting images, or allusions. Like an anime image of an old man surrounded by young boys with captions about a romance dating sim.

Yes, it is full of ads alluding to or including CSAM.

It's been like this for a while. The suggested shorts frequently imply sexual content with minors and Facebook friend suggestions on blank accounts frequently include 14-16 year old girls.

Don't believe me, create a fresh Facebook account and just browse the feed. It's vile. The second you click it to report it, the algo will show you so much more.

Edit: There's also a large number of fake user accounts promoting onlyfans or phishing scams including photos of under 18 girls in swimsuits with captions like "would you date someone young like me?". Facebook also closed those reported tickets as not violating community guidelines.

I flagged one of these in January, I just found it and the user is celebrating her "birthday" holding balloons 1 and 3. Still active.

I've appealed some of these reports they closed and they claimed a human reviewed it and it still didnt violate guidelines.

They at best don't give a fuck, at worst actively want this space to flourish within their platform. I think Facebook is behaving in a criminal way, either through negligence or complicit.

Don't assume all this content is ai. It's just as likely trafficking networks are producing these images or stealing them from minors' accounts. These images could have been produced ages ago as well.

These cybercriminals absolutely have CSAM they will show as a means of achieving phishing or pig butchering scams. Facebook allows its space to be a launching point for this.

Woah wait you mean the site run by the guy in this article https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2026/mar/05/mark-zuckerberg-meta-trial does fuck all to prevent problems?

I regularly see Facebook posts with literal calls for murder, that, after lengthy "reviews", are found to be "not against the community standards". Things like "we should really kill all the towelheads, they have no place in America"...

Meanwhile, a few weeks back I had to fight a 30 day suspension for a comment that said "[insert name here] no, Hitler was wrong, his rhetoric was hateful, and the very first targets of the Nazi party were the socialists and workers unions. Look up the Night of Long Knives.", because apparently stating historical facts, not calls to violence, IS against the community standards.

I was going to say, what isn't CSAM or scams, is violent and hateful propaganda or fake news.

I genuinely wish I could get a court order to ban my parents from using Facebook. I told my mom I wouldn't help her next time she get's scammed buying a fake item off a Facebook ad. I think she's at like 4 times now.

Like they aren't stupid, they are old. This stuff is dangerous for them.

Wouldn't even bother reporting those ads... We know nothing would come from it. The scammers pay Facebook their cut, they are happy.

So now Meta has actively produced and hosted CSAM material, when does the sites get seized?

[-] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 3 points 7 hours ago

hanvt they allowed it for a while.

[-] FartMaster69@lemmy.dbzer0.com 41 points 16 hours ago

Come now, rich pedophiles don’t face consequences.

[-] remotelove@lemmy.ca 11 points 13 hours ago

Not true. If they piss off richer, more prominent pedophiles they may accidentally fall out of windows or simply hang themselves in jail.

Everybody is blaming Meta for serving these ads, but, you see, they just didn't know. They took them down as soon as the were informed. Really, how could they possibly have known the content of the ads they sold, hosted and served? Those ads were very much against their rules, I can assure you of that. Their automated detection system is doing it's best, and they only proved it let through fifty odd such images. They swear it stopped a whole bunch more. What more do you want from them? What? You want them to pay someone to actually vet the ads they serve? Don't be ridiculous, that would cut into their profits. Unacceptable. Hold them responsible for the illegal content of ads they served? Absolutely not. How dare you?!

/s in case it wasn't obvious.

[-] TeaWithDani@lemmy.world 15 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 12 hours ago)

They actually don't take them down even if reported. I've been flagging stuff like this for 6 months. They refused. I appealed the refusal, a human supposedly reviewed it and it still was refused. The algo thinks I like that shit, so it shows me more and I report more of it. Nothing ever comes from it.

I'm talking about obvious CSAM or allusions to it. Accounts run by cybercriminals using images of minors to lure marks. Fucking shit that anyone with a working morality would remove.

its not like it makes a difference to the android in control, hes not human. im guessing Musk doesnt want to be left behind in the race to produce AI generated CSAM.

As the company implies, some of the offending ads got past Meta’s new AI technology. Initially, the TTP researchers found around two dozen ads displaying the abusive content. However, hours ahead of publication, the researchers discovered around 30 more. Many of these ads had been published after WIRED first asked Meta about the content, with multiple ads being live and shown to accounts at the time researchers discovered them.

Everyone involved in the process for those ads needs to be on a sex offender registry at a minimum. The entire company needs to be shut down for a few months while they are searched thoroughly for any more signs of CSAM distribution.

You train a piece of programming on Reddit and the entirety of the internet, then have it run by emotionally stunted sociopaths. How is any of this surprising?

[-] splendid9583@kbin.earth 1 points 15 hours ago

I originally thought that the title expressed "Meta created ads that contained AI-generated Child Sexual Abuse Imagery, and then ran them". However, it seems that the article actually expresses "One or more people who are probably not employees of Meta made ads that contained AI-generated Child Sexual Abuse Imagery in order to promote so-called nudify or undressing apps, and then Meta ran them".

More than 50 image and video ads containing abusive content were recently discovered in Meta’s ad library by researchers at the Tech Transparency Project (TTP), with the listings showing that some ads linked out to so-called nudify or undressing apps. Meta’s ad library—a transparency tool that catalogues ads displayed on the company’s platforms—shows the ads running across Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and/or Threads. The findings are the second time in recent weeks that paid ads linked to child sexual abuse material have been found on Meta’s platforms.

Oh, well that’s okay then.

False alarm guys! The billion dollar social media network didn’t make CSAM, they just reviewed, hosted, and pushed it to users uncritically! Nothing to see here!
