Bananas are so ridiculously cheap. $1.49 per bunch as Costco.

  • Almost enough there to contain as much flavour as a single hand of heirloom bananas.

Is that enough bananas to give me radiation poisoning if I eat them all? 🤔

Fun fact most bananas are picked while green and then exposed to Ethylene Gas to ripen quickly! I don't eat bananas any more!

Apples and other fruits naturally emit ethylene gas. If you ever stored apple with other fruits, you exposed those fruits to ethylene gas.

If you don't recognize the potential risks associated with the commercial ripening of bananas, you are free to continue consuming them!

I'm genuinely curious what it is

Because ethylene is produced by fruits during and after ripening. There's no human health risk associated with it (especially since it doesn't stick around inside the fruit)

You’ve already done your research, and that’s fine. I’m not trying to change your opinion. If you’re looking for more detailed explanations, a nutritionist would be a better source than a random Lemmy user. I know anything I say is likely not to change your mind.

You would rather eat green bananas or bruised bananas? Do you even know what ethylene oxide is?

I feel sorry for your body with choices like that.

I have a hard time believing that your concern for my body is genuine. It feels more like a negative remark directed toward my previous statement rather than a sincere expression of concern. I don’t think you’re fooling anyone with that approach.
