In a wide-ranging interview with The New York Times Saturday, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani made clear that he plans to take any action available to him to ensure the city complies with the International Criminal Court’s warrant for the arrest of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if the opportunity arises.
The American Service-Members' Protection Act literally makes it illegal for any American official to arrest Netanyahu on behalf of the ICC. On top of that, if any other country arrests him and sends him to the Hague for prosecution, that same law authorizes the US military to invade the Netherlands in order to break him out of custody.
The answer, which he already knows, is no they won't be doing that. He can't just immediately say "no" because then other idiots will get up in arms and say he's supporting Israel. So he says it's something they're "looking into" to avoid pissing anyone off.
