The maximum fine for fly-tippers is to increase to £5,000, while litterers will also face higher fines of up to £750.

Announcing the fines, Environment Secretary Emma Reynolds MP said: "Criminals who break the rules will face heftier fines that will be paid to clean up the mess they make.

"We are sending a clear message to those who dump their rubbish - we are coming after you and you will pay the price.”
