Hello, i want to make an box to keep my wifi router in at my airbnb, so that guests can't tamper with it. the box will be made from wood on the corners and punched metal sheet for the sides (like in the pic bellow)

Assuming that my router is the kind with external antennae and i modify the box to have the antennae on the outside of the metal sheets, am i right to think that i will have no issues with heating and signal reduction ?

Thanks!

Use nylon mesh screen material or get a separate WiFi access point attached to the locked up router.

I think nobody is realizing that you'll have the antennas OUTSIDE the box. I don't think they create that much heat but to be sure you could have some holes with a fan of some sort (probably a PC fan) and that would be more then enough and with the antennas OUTSIDE the signal shouldn't be affected

Yes it will significantly reduce the signal. The wavelegth of WIFI is 120mm, and a holesize smaller than half the wavelength reduces the signal exponentially. So a mesh with holes smaller than 60 mm (2,4 inches) will significantly impact it. .

The best option may be getting a ceiling mounted AP, putting it in the center of the house, and away from a wall. You may get better reception, and I dont think any guests carry ladders with them
