Democratic incumbents now have to worry about being too pro-genocide
i'm still really shocked that a foreign policy issue decided the presidential race
It is not surprising, when the candidates are almost identical on domestic policy.
Many in the crowd were alarmed by the surging popularity of Zohran Mamdani, but still skeptical that a staunchly anti-Israel lawmaker could be elected in the city with the world’s largest Jewish community outside of Israel.
Here’s the rub, though; there’s an equal, or greater, number of Muslims in NYC compared to Jews. Furthermore, the NYC Jewish population isn’t the same as it was mid-twentieth century. The relatively secular Ashkenazi, Western European liberal/reform/conservative Jews (FYI, I’m using those terms in the context of Jewish sects, not the political ones) have been largely displaced by Eastern European orthodox and Hasidic Jews. They’re a bit mixed on Israel, but more importantly they tend to be insular and stick to their enclaves. Which means that unless the district in question contains said enclaves, the Jewish vote is unlikely to be super significant. Whereas the Muslim population is more disbursed across the city.
So while the Zionist $$$ might still be big, when it comes to the actual voter base in NYC, the Zionists are making their assumptions off an outdated model.
And also, turns out a lot of Jews are soured on the idea of ethnic cleansing period, and the fact it’s being done in their name actually makes them even more disgusted. Who’d a thunk?
Keep in mind the US itself is still quite Zionist, and in line with this, so are a lot of Jewish Americans. I'm not sure what the latest stats are or if they are reliable, though.
do you have data on this?
There’s a whole subreddit called “r/JewsOfConscience” and when I was in college, the first people who opened my eyes about Israel’s genocide way back were Jews protesting Israel.
Plus also, I acknowledge free will. I am white but I don’t think white supremacy is good. I can make a safe bet Jews have the free will to see the atrocities of Israel and object.
Many Jews being against genocide, even Jewish supremacist genocide is axiomatic.
i feel like you misread my comment as “no jews oppose genocide” when in reality i’m asking for actual data/numbers
My understanding is that American Jews are actually quite divided on the subject. Evangelical Christians are more lopsided on the issue than Jewish people.
i appreciate your thoughts, but do you have comparative statistical surveys of evangelical christians’ and american jews’ views on israel?
A recent larger survey from JFNA had about 1/3 of U.S. Jews identifying as Zionists and 7% as antizionist.
Ty, I'll take a look
There’s also a big divide between the Zionism of major Jewish institutions and the beliefs of members/congregants particularly anyone younger than about 50.
It doesn't have to be true they just have to believe its true
For every never Trump Republican we lose. We pick up two non-voters in the rust belt.
I legit thought this said
Jewish Telepathic Agency
they're doing tropes
Yes a common misread. It was founded in 1917 and kept the original name. Delightfully retro.
