He didn't come out in the speech, he's been openly gay his whole life. He still wants to limit immigration. Worth reading it for context.

He didn't come out btw, he's been openly gay for a long time (although some voters are only finding out about it now he got elected). He is still very much a far-right politician (for some reason).

Alice Weidel, the leader of the far right / post-fascist Party "AfD", is a openly gay living Woman. She is related to an Immigrant from Sri Lanka and are raising two Kids, which her Wife gave birth to. Both are living in Switzerland and pay no taxes in Germany ...

The party is known for their racist, homophob and overly patriotic members and agenda. One leading person got a couple of time in legal trouble for citing NSDAP Paroles and is speaking fond of the Hitler Regime...

And yeah, we are still clueles on many levels why this is working out for them.

How can the leader of a political party live in another country?

If you think that's crazy, maybe you should check out how things are going in Moldova...

Moldovan President Sandu is also a Romanian national, like many of her compatriots. She supported Nicusor Dan in the May 2025 Romanian presidential election and voted for him.

It may seem odd that Sandu holds Romanian citizenship, enjoys voting rights in Romania and effectively promotes the end of her independent state. Yet for many, her attitude simply underscores the linguistic, historic and cultural ties between Romania and Moldova. Both countries use Romanian as their official state language.

How is having a 2nd citizenship related to living in another country than the one you are politically participating in? (The asked question)

Why is it odd to have a 2nd citizenship and be able to vote in that country?

Your comment makes no sense.

post-fascist

And yeah, we are still clueles on many levels why this is working out for them.

There's your problem. Fascists wear the skin of the accepted society they seek to control. The Afd aren't post-fascist. They're just fascists doing fascist things.

I recently heard a talk of a German professor for history. He made a point why it is (as often) wise to use the labels correct. In his opinion, "fascism" is something slightly diferent, more militaristic fe. So Trump, the AfD, and all the other arseholes need an own description - post-fascism. It made kinda sense to me. But yeah, I understand why its sometimes fair to use a fighting word.

If you are interested and understand German fluently, here is the said talk.

I can warmly recommend this podcast series in general. They do quick lectures on specific, sometimes controverse, history topics with proven experts. And they do it in a sober and neutral tone. Unlike many other podcasts out there. I like that :)

I knew the afd is fucked but I didn't know it's that fucked. I don't know I guess we're realising more and more that contradicting yourself in politics doesn't actually matter...

Fuck that guy, I'm still not sure if he had good a good campaign PR team, or if he ended up brain damaged and switching his political beliefs as a result, or a little of both. But God damn is it difficult being one of his constituents.

[-] modus@lemmy.world 2 points 12 hours ago

Fetterman is becoming a neologism similar to santorum, yet more despicable.

An unfettered man

[-] Garbagio@lemmy.zip 7 points 1 day ago

A freewoman, if you will

[-] trashgirlfriend@lemmy.world 39 points 1 day ago

The guy is still anti immigration, his partner is an immigrant so he has to say that pretty much.

He is still a right wing politician.

[-] UltraMagnus0001@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago

I'm thinking of registering as a republican and voting in their primaries in order to select the person with less chances of winning for them.

[-] Doublenut@lemmy.zip 10 points 1 day ago

My father has been doing this for years and as a result is part of the reason Trump was even able to run for a first term.

Because "who would actually vote for that idiot?"

[-] whats_a_lemmy@midwest.social 1 points 11 hours ago

Ah yes, the hilary strategy

Concealing past relationships can be difficult in politics, so either they wanted to believe too hard to bother validating his bio, or were just even more lazy than they usually accuse the other side of being (I'm admittedly assuming there's not much difference in conservatives regardless of locale - and, yes, I get the irony of doing so although my progressive American opinion doesn't really matter in Australia).

Makes me almost giddy to say "how's that taste of your own medicine?"

[-] yakko@feddit.uk 6 points 1 day ago

It's fucking amazing.

[-] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 11 points 1 day ago

He's a reverse John Fetterman!

[-] Jolteon@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 day ago

Isn't turning around and doing the exact opposite of what you campaigned on illegal in most countries with elections?

[-] OwOarchist@pawb.social 52 points 1 day ago

If it was, 90% of politicians would be breaking the law.

I wish dude i wish...

[-] Yliaster@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Welcome to politics.

[-] unemployedclaquer@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 day ago

This is precisely what some hope for u.s. politics, but it will be brutal, in their vision. Do not hope for unlucky coincidences. All people are free.
