I can't speak for anyone else, but I've abandoned the Democrat party.

i think it's possible even that politics at the municipality level might be able to do more for the people than the fed gov. i'm currently evaluating that possibility.

so far, evidence suggests that municipality govs might be more inclined to actually help the people as they live closer to their people so they're more directly liable. their results are more immediately visible, less abstract, so people can hold them accountable more easily.

I've thought the same way for a long time, but people always argued that it would leave behind everyone outside of progressive areas.

Which is true, but well what's the alternative? The bureaucratic hurdles of a federal government are too immense for it to be fully responsible to people's needs, even when you don't have a government which is perpetually locked in a stalemate at best.

Grassroots movements by definition need to start at the municipal level; and leaving everything up to the federal government in a top-down approach is what paves the way for centralization, consolidation of power, and the resurgence of fascism.

My red state makes "preemptive laws" to undo anything remotely nice that the more liberal cities try to do (bike lanes, solar panels on school roofs, municipal banks).

There's tons of corruption on the municipal level as well (things like large development companies and Flock bribing politicians to get approval), which is kind of discouraging. But, I think you need to attack the problem on all fronts (federal, local, primaries, mutual aid, protest, civil disobedience).

It was a one-sided relationship from the start... so congratulations.

Liberalism isn't democratic - it's fundamentally oligarchic, and always has been.

US Americans better find and agree on another party real quick, because you can bet your ass, the MAGAts will vote for the Republicans again and they gotta beat that plus all the gerrymandering and whatever sticks they throw between voters legs.

You can't even be sure there will be elections. In theory it's his final term, but he will likely try to extend it somehow. So, if there are elections, they gotta make it count.

Unfortunately for Democrats I'm no longer capitulating to them. They need to be progressive, anti-corporation, and anti-zionist. I feel that's not too much to ask. I've held my nose for far too long. Now it's their time.

This is where I would like to see things, but im not able to ignore the spoiler effect. If a third progressive candidate is on the ballot without someone to counter balance on the opposing ticket, you get a opposing winner because your idealogical ticket is split.

All's fair in the primaries, campaign for who ever you wany, but the general needs strategic voting for damage control (its not a vote for democrats, its against republicans). The only way I see a non-GOP/DEM candiate not just ruining things for their own side is if 4 actual parties are running, MAGA, GOP, DEM, and PRO.

[-] lurch@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago

Okay, but which party will you vote for? Serious question. Make up your mind and spread the word. If everyone just votes for a random party you better move to another country, because shit's gonna get real.

[-] Tempus_Fugit@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

I'll vote for whoever brings the goods and nobody else. I'm not going to vote for big money Dems or Zionists ever again. If the Dems put forth another liberal like Kamala or Gavin, they can kiss my vote goodbye. I'm done playing games with them. I've voted for these liberals my whole life even after all the corruption and shit slinging they do to progressives. I've listened to their lies and excuses why they can't execute the policy they promised while doing very little to curtail our current fascist takeover.

It's up to them to do what's right. I doubt they will though. What are the Dems currently trying to do with their progressive wing? Last I checked they labeled some prominent progressives antisemitic for their criticism of the Palestinian genocide and called for their cancellation, lmao. That's their priority.

I'm not in PA. No need to worry about a Fetterman either.

Ah, well in that case, he's a liberal and a Zionist, already nonstarters.

[-] chicken@lemmy.dbzer0.com 0 points 1 week ago

If the Dems put forth another liberal like Kamala or Gavin

This is also the result of a vote, so at least vote in the primaries

[-] Tempus_Fugit@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

I've voted in every election I can since I was 18, even local. I'll be there. My primary isn't until August, but that date is marked on the calendar.

[-] IndustryStandard@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

Bernie will accurately describe the problem and then, when push comes to shove, tell you to vote for it once again.

[-] Zoomboingding@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Disappointing compromise or Christo-fascism are the two choices

[-] IndustryStandard@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

It would not be if they refused to accept disappointing compromise.

Perfection has been a really big enemy of good lately.

Maybe bad is the enemy of good.

When Gaven Newsom is the next Dem candidate he'll be telling everyone to vote for him and when he promises to make everything worse I can almost gurantee LW shitlibs will make excuses.
