Stalk a billionaire until you catch them doing one of those reprehensible things billionaires do.

Then send messages to them through an anonymous source, and demand a small regular payment through untraceable means.

I bet every billionaire has about 100 of those in their payroll.

That's me, just not for one summer. I have a military disability pension, I'm 39 and get 3k on my bank account each month (with taxes already deducted). I don't have to work anymore for the rest of my life, due to PTSD from deployments. I can do whatever the fuck I want and I'm getting the money to support that. Scarred for life though, life is a struggle every day. If I could choose, I'd pick working normally with no mental issues any time.

Disability pension isn't exactly easy to come by. You can only get it if a doctor manages to convince someone who's entire job is to stop you from getting it by any legal means necessary that you are incapable of holding a job because of what is affecting you 24-7 365.

It's less a jackpot than a consolation prize.

If you don't mind poor sleep with horrible nightmares, waking up in a soaking wet bed, several times every single night, then sure. If you don't mind not being able to go to a supermarket or store. Or having panic episodes or re-living the horrors randomly for no reason. Being bored shitless because you can't leave the house, dont feel like doing anything but also are restless AF. All while having an existential crisis because I'm worthless to society, have no purpose in life, no satisfaction from achievements as I have none.

Trade?

Sounds like rhe standard customer service employment life tbh

[-] TigerAce@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 day ago

Haha yeah, I see what you mean

[-] Reginald_T_Biter@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Im joking of course, sorry you have to deal with that. Sounds like it sucks.

[-] TigerAce@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 day ago

Jokes lighten up the dark parts of life. I appreciate it

[-] SanitationStation@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Thats rough. I had a fairly traumatic experience once. The result was about a month of a zombie-like state. It took me some time to discover i was having nightmares i could not remember when waking up, in addition to depression and occasional flashbacks.

In my case it was a "normal" reaction to extreme stress since it eventually improved. Having to live like that would not be fun. Ill deal with having to go to work instead.

I've met my fair share of people like this and the mysterious source of income is almost always "family money".

[-] Alvaro@lemmy.blahaj.zone 70 points 2 days ago

Either that or life savings and a financial countdown that they ignore until they run dry

Yes yes, now where do I find this "family money" you speak of?

[-] Shellofbiomatter@lemmus.org 39 points 2 days ago

That's easy, just go back in time and choose a richer family to be born into.

fuck around and seduce rich polyamorous people

[-] TankovayaDiviziya@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 23 hours ago)

Probably a dividend investor. Or a trust fund kid.

[-] BigBananaDealer@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

how can i do both of those

[-] nexguy@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Just stop not being a trust fund kid

[-] BigBananaDealer@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

ill ask my parents about that

[-] TankovayaDiviziya@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

There is nothing we can do about not being a trust fund kid!

But on being a dividend investor, it is very much possible. I've heard of two janitors who are secretly millionaires because they invest. One is a Japanese who gets income from dividends from the investments he made.

[-] some_kind_of_guy@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

[-] Krauerking@lemy.lol 15 points 1 day ago

I have realized what the problem is with vacations:
We no longer take off as part of a giant team that continues without us letting us just jump back in when back but for a lot of us it simply pauses our work without pausing the buildup.

There's not a casual getaway its a calculated loss or later tension and math quiz on whether it is worth it.

Thats literally the wrong way to lose stress.

[-] faintwhenfree@lemmus.org 11 points 1 day ago

Office next door started this thing in 2019. basically your entitled holidays carry over forever. And as permanent employee you can take upto 2 months of unpaid holidays on top without being fired, so basically people take 1-2 months vacations every year. One of the guy who we know hadn't taken a holiday since 2019. He is now basically taking 9 months off work and 6.5 of those is paid at his full salary.

Motherfucker is starting the whole thing with muay thai retreat.

[-] bridgeburner@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

That's awesome. In germany you can't save up your vacation days, you have to use them up usually until March of the following year, otherwise you will lose them. Which is stupid, i would like to save some up each year and maybe retire like a year early then.

[-] Johandea@feddit.nu 66 points 2 days ago

You're describing vacation, no? I have 6+ weeks of paid vacation every year. In Europe. Sure, six weeks isn't the entire summer, but with the vacation days saved from previous years (since I rarely use more than four weeks) I could easily live work free for months. Granted, my income wouldn't be mysterious...

[-] X@piefed.world 79 points 2 days ago

Sorry, but the income source being mysterious is non-negotiable.

[-] Clent@lemmy.dbzer0.com 46 points 2 days ago

This is clearly an American centric meme, where having a week of paid vacation is a luxury and affording a flight to Europe is a fantasy.

It's called being on the dole, no? It's nice for a while, then you need some activity or I would get insane. Been there, done that, can't complain. Happy to work again but glad the system exists (getting worse though).

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.
