Black pepper arrived. It's the bomb. It only accentuates how sad whatever-the-fuck FreshCo sold my wife is. The difference is so stark, it's like a different spice altogether.
One point with the pepper you normally buy is that it could have been cooked to distill off the peperin. This is something that happens where the law permits it. Here, for example, it is legal to do this, but then they have to grind it and sell it as powder, and they don't need to tell you what they did. In the next country, this is illegal.
Wow. Reading a bit, it seems like it's not illegal to sell peppercorns after such extracrion in Canada.

We have bought lots of spices from Spice Treckers https://spicetrekkers.com/en-ca/ in Montreal. They're also known as Epices de Cru en Francais. Really excellent quality and selection, and they also ship via Canada Post.
