Kinda weird to put these two in the same sentence this way. Matrix is FOSS and there are completely independent clients and servers for it. There is basically no way for the matrix foundation or element to spy on matrix users other than through the metadata on the matrix.org server which you obviously shouldnt use because it has horrible performance and limitations.

    The video actually talks about this, basically FOSS is more secure as long as there is somebody capable of doing regular safety audits on it. What is undeniable is that Matrix development was paid for almost exclusively by Israeli Intelligence Ops for several years. Gamers Nexus doesn't shame them or tell people not to use Matrix, but they said "It's understandable" to be apprehensive.
