Met up with some very normie friends tonight, expected them to do the civility thing. Instead we laughed over calling him "Charlie Merc'd"

The only people I know who care about it are my hyper-online cousins and a couple of former college friends who went off the deep end a long time ago. All people who, if push comes to shove, will never personally pick up a gun to enforce the terror.

They can say all the shit they want and pretend to be persecuted, but I know that they are too comfortable to ever do anything but be insufferable to their family.

And normies really are not fucking with the "empathic" reaction coming from the soft left either

At my company we have department meetings every morning. We each say what we're gonna do that day, and something we're grateful for. I was bracing myself for a bunch of bullshit about Charlie, but only one guy said something out of like 20! We did still have our 9/11 moment of silence tho :/

Edit: is it possible to view tiktok videos without an account?

If I have to hear at an airline terminal again the thanking of the military for their service while allowing them to board early I’m gonna explode.

Probably audibly let out a groan of deep dissatisfaction, maybe even muttered “please stop this fascist bs.”

Came across this song by Ben Caplan recently: The Flood

I keep thinking about this part of the second verse in particular:

After a dutiful lifеtime of dreams
    Trickling riches and muffled screams
The centre can't hold, it gyres to the extremes

    Elaborate please?

I run into tons of them constantly, people who only know about marvel and have no knowledge of anything important or current except celebrities and meaningless bullshit, or who are just normal working class folks with too much work and too little time to give a fuck about anything not relating to their job, so I'm wondering if I misunderstand what you're sayin

Their political views are comprised of vibes and assumptions they learned to make 30 years ago, like voting blue is good, and whatever they heard on nbc last, that's kind of central to my personal definition of a normie, especially politically

    like voting blue is good

that's not a normie to me because these people are very small in numbers ,I guess its because me and you define the word differently

I mean it different from a "blue no matter who" mindset, Most folks around me seem to understand in a vague nebulous way that democrats are somehow good and nice, and if the tv says they're still good an nice and the other guy is mean or unelectable they buy it unless they have someone in their life to talk them around, politicaly 'active' insofar as would probably vote, but completely alienated from the reality they are taking part in

I teach high school, and my students universally think it is cool and good. The very first comment I got after the shooting was "I think his neck just did that." The administration had to send out a mass email asking people to tone down the celebration of violence. The kids are alright.

my elderly dad, with Fox News on: "Did you see this horrible killing?" me: "Wasn't he a scumbag?" dad: "He had two small children. There was just a guy on saying how much of a good guy he was."

The fucking Hate Machine, Fear Factory of Fox has (for two generations now?) utterly and completely brainwashed the tv-addicted, suburbanite, old folks faction. As much as we all know it it's so pathetic and evil to witness in the numerous ways it gets decent people time and again to become debased fascist bigots.

My grandma graduated to newsmax, which is even worse than fox. She “cried herself to sleep” over Kirk. Didn’t know or care about the Colorado school shooting the same day. Sometimes I miss the grandma I remember as a child but man she makes it difficult most of the time

shortened tiktok urls have by default tracking slugs in them
