Maybe a dumb question, trying to get the hang of things over here. Is there an app for this? Or is that like a needs to be developed long term plan? Mobile functionality on my older mobile is fine but not as great as former 3rd party reddit apps but maybe that's an unreal standard here.

Thoughts?

Jerboa for Lemmy. On Android at least, I'm using it right meow!

I have also been using this without issue. Hopefully development continues for it.

On iOS there is mlem, on Android there is Jerboa, which is still a bit janky, and the devs of some popular Reddit apps have also said they are willing to port theirs to Lemmy.

Rocking Mlem right now. It’s nice but not a great stability yet.

popular Reddit apps which ones? any source on this?

"are considering" might have been better wording, as the Sync developer hasn't decided yet. For RedReader it's pretty much guranteed to happen eventually as the app is open source.

Additionally, there is a Reddit to Lemmy API translation layer which could accelerate this.

There's also a discussion for Infinity:

There's also a translator proxy people are working on:

Which Reddit had the guts of flagging as "potentially innapropriate for some users" so you can't view it on the web!

It doesn't seem like the main developer has said anything yet, though, that's why I didn't include it in my list. But hey, it's open source, so I'm sure someone will contribute a pull request!

(edited my comment with one more thing)

Hah, I edited the same thing into my comment earlier :)

edit: also that "unreviewed content" popup is such a scourge. it seems to pop up completely randomly, just to force you to use the app. glad to be off that platform.

Thanks for the help! Trying jerboa now

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (2 children)

didnt like jerboa, i access lemmy via browser on my phone ("installing" the website via the browser)

I tried this, but upvoting didn't seem to work well. I would click to upvote and it would change and then immediately go back like I didn't click on it at all. Not sure if it's a me problem or a refresh thing or something.

Memmy is great for iOS via testflight, not sure how installing on Android works honestly. I’m preferring it over Mlem
