US politicians can disappear from their jobs for 6 months without losing them. Meanwhile, you or I disappear for 3 days and it's job abandonment.

I'd say the US government was a funny joke if it wasn't at our expense.

    i got absolutely bombed one night before work, missed my alarm and woke to a voicemail from my boss telling me i was "terminated". it was only 2 hours into my shift.

    i didn't care at all to be honest because i wasn't planning on being a prep cook for the rest of my life anyway

    I love how american democracy has devolved into a cascade of Weekend at Bernie's gags. Feinstein, Biden, McConnel come to mind. What is really strange is that this isn't seen as a scandal. Getting a BJ from a staffer will kill your career in politics but being a shambling corpse puppet is perfectly acceptable.
