Communism. Americans decided they would fight KKK and Nazism with the same vigor and discovered that communism was way better.

Nothing wrong with communism but we joined Lemmy because we love China's brand of far-right

Lemmings have become the most popular animal on the planet, all the new users are confused as to what a lemming is.

We were all going to reddit, when a Blocker Lemming was placed in front of us. One Basher and an Umbrella later, we all ended up here.

Life gave us Lemmy's so we got to squeeze Lemmy back in life's eyeball and say "I don't want your damn reddit!"

The Poop post hit 9Gag a few days days ago. Then a bunch of them started coming to "Lemmy: Discorse is Magic" all the time "ironically." There were a bunch of inside jokes about how much they "hated" Lemmy. They even came up with a name to identify each other because this joke of loving Lemmy was so funny. They called themselves Broemmys.

Then a bunch of other sites started to notice all the 9gaggers coming to Lemmy but didn't know that it was supposed to be ironic, so they just came and had a really good time. They participated and were active in communities. They learned of the fediverse and just decided it was a really great place to be... Sometimes there was some NSFW stuff.

Then a bunch of them got together and decided throw Broemmycon and they hired a really pretty good band who does Broemmy based music to come and play as the event headliner. And everyone had a good time, even the old 9gaggers who used to think it was a joke.

Our lizard overlords have activated subliminal messaging to bring us all together under the guise of normal humans being normal.

People started to hate the new Digg layout and spilled over to Lemmy.

I heard some strange advertisements at the theatre before the Top Gun movie: They were saying something like

ymmel nioj?

I can't tell if this is a serious question or not, but it's pretty complicated to fully explain. The short of the long of it is that now that MySpace has started to use retina verification for their 2FA, people are upset that it's an invasion of privacy due to the reflective nature of human ball eyes. Since Lemmy only requires a password for mod accounts, it's an easier platform for people to use to share embedded auto play music and glittery gifs. I don't think it'll last though, word on the street is that Digg is going to be removing all authentication methods soon, so I expect a majority of the userbase will move there

The name Lemmy is seeing a revival for newborns. As parents look up the name and its meaning, they find lemmy instances and end up going down the rabbit hole.

'Lemmy, what a great baby name. It's short for Lemming, which means "independent free thinker" but only on opposite day. What do you think, darling?'

Personally, I came here for the ads

[โ€“] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

I was elated when reddit announced they blocked 3rd party apps, gently but affirmingly guiding me to the ads. It always makes my day better to browse through some targeted ads with my content on the side, like a balanced breakfast meal. The dopamine rush I get from buying plastic objects off of Amazon is just too damn good. Thank god for these changes. Bless you, spez.

Free? All I was sent was a coupon for a bag of chips with a sandwich purchase...

Ah yes, the great seasonal migration of the Redditors. At Lemmy they graze during the summer months, only to return to their breeding grounds on Reddit during the winter.
