Why is this downvoted? I'm not a huge fan of BRICS either but this is certainly news worthy

No idea. I can see not up voting it. I think it's a bit of a non-story. Country looks to maybe join a group containing it's some of it large trading partners. This group might or might not do something on the future. Only interesting bit is it's the BRICS.

But a down vote just feels unnecessary. The story is factual. The source is fine. It might be relevant to someone.

It's not maybe joining, it's definitely joining.

Can't wait for the neolib astroturfing to make it's way here too

Why is this downvoted?

It is imperative to keep pretending that BRICS expansion is just a nothing-burger and de-dollarization isn't happening, otherwise some people's entire worldview crumbles.

Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen announced that Bangladesh, along with Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Indonesia, has been invited to join BRICS. These countries are expected to join the group in August during a summit in South Africa.

I was wondering when they'd finally decide whether or not to admit all these countries I had been hearing about. August will be quite exciting. ๐Ÿ‘€

Empires usually only last about 200 years, the USA is already 150 years old or so.

I imagine advances in communication and transportation technologies play a factor as well, we see things develop at a much faster rate today than they have in the past.
