The screenshot shows comments somehow being nested multiple levels without an intermediate parent. That's a bug, right? Nesting should only be increasing by one level at a time.
I've observed this happening a ton across many different threads. There's also some weird cases where the top level comment is just a link to "show parent" and... It's not actually top level??
My understanding is it has to do with deleted comments not having a placeholder, so the comments you do see look like they're nested strangely
It's bugged. Change your default comment sort to 'New', fixed it for me.
I noticed that too. Changing comment sort didn't seem to affect it, at least not that I noticed. It seems that it's listing the newer child replies as technically newer than some of the parents, and sorting by new affected the whole tree, not just top level comments.
sort by top for comments is bugged. sort by hot and you're good.
