Not sure if mkv support is widespread, but as janky as the TV was with other formats, mkv worked great every time. permalink fedilink source parent [–] deranger@sh.itjust.works 8 points 2 years ago (3 children) MPC-HC also a very good choice permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 3 child comments replies: [–] Land_Strider@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (2 children) Installing MPC-HC during K-Lite Code pack as my primary media player has taken place of VLC for me this last year. MPC-HC with madVR looks excellent. permalink fedilink source parent [–] comrade_pibb@hexbear.net 7 points 2 years ago this is the correct answer permalink fedilink source parent [–] Magnetar@feddit.de 2 points 2 years ago VLC could play a polaroid image of the Voyager records. permalink fedilink source parent [–] Da_Boom@iusearchlinux.fyi 1 point 2 years ago VLC works most of the time. That said some videos VLC can't seem to decode correctly - I never get VLC complaining about unsupported file formats, but I do get weird artifacts and glitched rendering when I try to play certain ones. It's then that I usually try MPV or MPlayer. One of those will usually play the video correctly. permalink fedilink source parent
