My Brother laser printer was no-nonsense. My HP printer required HPLIP drivers on Linux which I hate, but didn't require an account.

How secure do you want to be? Are you only trying to avoid subscriptions? Because color printers are known to print hidden, identifying marks -- forensic data -- on paper. The EFF tried tracking who was doing it and just gave up in 2017 when the answer appeared to be "everyone".
