I want to get my brother an iPhone X refurbished for Christmas but I don’t want to get him a phone that won’t be supported by apps etc within a year or 2

Get an iPhone 11 or 12 at least. XR and XS support will like cease after iOS 17 and the 11 should at least get iOS 12

The oldest iOS version supported for iPhone 11 was iOS 13. The newest would at least be iOS 18.
