The more rural areas make that sort of rejection hard. In the area I live in, my choices are pretty limited. I have a terrible cable option (I used to have this one), cellular options (I'm on one of these now) and Starlink. For now, the cellular option is good enough, though lately the quality of service has been going downhill. We have a lot more days where our connection just seems to go to hell for no reason. We also get degraded service when storms are in the area. And don't get me started on the shit-tastic hardware. Fiber isn't an option. I have seriously considered Starlink, but the company being owned by Musk has kept me away. Unfortunately, if the cellular option continues to go to hell, I might be pushed into giving Starlink a shot.
We really need something akin to a Rural Electrification push for high speed internet, if we want to avoid the wireless carriers becoming the de facto last mile for those areas. That's going to be expensive and take a lot of time, and may not even be possible anymore. The wireless options are starting to be "good enough" and people may just choose them anyway.
