seeing new cool software pop up was so cool, now everytime i see it i'm like "it's vibecoded slop isn't it" and the worst part is you don't even need to check because IT ALWAYS IS!!!

assume that every new software is llm-generated garbage, and don't bother checking, because you'll be right literally 99% of the time. it feels like programmers don't exist anymore. those who were fine with ai became sloperators incapable of thinking for themselves, and those who weren’t left the field entirely. with very few exceptions.

I’m an exception. I very very rarely use AI in any of my projects. I even made a policy banning it that I use in most of my projects:

when you say "very, very rarely use AI", what is the exception? is it an LLM or something else?

For anyone who doesn't know, there's a website that tracks projects that have a no ai use statement

You literally caught me in the process of leaving the field. I'm gonna take on the role of doing UI/UX optimizing in our applications in the future. At least if everything goes right. The whole advent of LLMs soured coding for me

Yeah, I'm more into my slow cooker than software these days.

i decided to learn crochet, and you know what it's remarkably fucking similar in some ways
computing did arise from looms, so this is quite poetic

I feel like that's a ver pessimistic and anti human approach to life. I just don't check and continue to be happy :3

i've been burned too many times by badly written slopware to afford to ignore it… 2 weeks ago all my handwritten notes for uni vanished from the app i was using on my tablet, for what felt like no reason, i look up the repo and lo and behold a bunch of deepseek commits. that app had a bunch of weird problems but this was the last i was willing to deal with.

i said fuck it and i'm using paper notebooks with pencils and highlighters now. at least that won't turn to slop on me. i don't trust software anymore. not when any previously trustworthy software will just turn to shit on you because the maintainers caught acute ai psychosis

I disagree, ignoring a problem will just make it worse in my opinion

What's the problem, some developers loosing out on the intrinsic joy of creating a project on your own? I don't think that assuming every project that comes out is made with ai will help fight against ai companies.

Watching a field that's been a major part of me for the majority of my life being butchered and made a mockery of. It's the same situation as what happened to artists but it's harder to defend against because the AI generated codebases often do work at this point so people will ignore the AI.

The fact though is that code IS an art form to me and others that are in tech out of a genuine interest rather than the money. I used to enjoy reading through the code for interesting new projects but when its all AI generated there's just no point anymore and it's deeply, deeply depressing

There's a million other reasons to avoid AI projects but thats the one that hits me the most

I wish I could be willfully ignorant, life would be so much simpler if I wasn't aware of all of the clustertrucks, and wouldn't be thinking further ahead than my next meal... But alas, suffering it is

That’s dangerous. Things coded by AI tend to not be very secure. Also, they’re definitely going to get abandoned when AI is priced at more than what it costs to run it. (Right now, every AI company loses money when you use their product.)
