What's that saying/quote/joke? The typical citizen of the USA views themself as a temporarily indisposed millionaire.

    Exactly! I wonder if it was Marx's analysis which was the origin of this, and how fascinating to see it shift to temporarily indisposed/temporarily embarrassed millionaire from self-sustaining peasants. I imagine that had something to do with the way imperialism was going post WW2: rapid rise in living standards in the USA fueled by exporting all the messy parts
