Cooperation between specialists, bringing diverse insights to bear on a complex problem, is something humans are perfectly capable of doing. Of course, this sort of thing is characterized as DEI and trampled on by fascists. Of course they want us to think our up and coming AI overlords are necessary when they're not. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 7 child comments replies: [–] hyperion626@lemmy.world 1 point 6 hours ago (4 children) What? Why would a physicist consulting a biologist be DEI? What the fuck are you talking about? Are bioligists token hires or something? permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 4 child comments replies: [–] SarahValentine@pawb.social 1 point 5 hours ago* (3 children) Any time a bunch of actual experts put their heads together to tackle a complex issue, right wingers crawl out of the woodwork to shit on it, discredit the science and the people doing it. The cry of DEI is just one of the newer forms of this tactic. My state is governed by magats who wield power over the university's board of trustees. They have cut numerous degree programs under the pretext of not having enough yearly graduates, the majority of which happen to be DEI-related programs. Professors were forbidden to speak ill of the president or JD Vance, or mention the Charlie Kirk assassination. My professor for the interdisciplinary seminar was a multi-certified DEI specialist who was basically hobbled and had to cleverly set up discussions about these things between us students to get around these draconian restrictions. Fascists don't want intelligent, educated people to collaborate. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 3 child comments replies: [–] hyperion626@lemmy.world 0 points 2 hours ago (2 children) Wait, they are cutting very literal DEI programs? The fuck does that have to do with actual science being called DEI? To be clear, I'm not bitching about DEI specifically not being actual science. I'd call anything that has no real world ROI that. I love art. But I'd never call classical painting analysis actual science. I absolutely do want people in the arts, but that shouldn't be a publicly funded thing. If you want to go to a private school to get a degree in astrology with personal money, I'd call you an idiot, but I would support your ability to be an idiot. So long as you aren't my kid and it's not my money funding it. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] SarahValentine@pawb.social 1 point 2 hours ago* (1 child) What I'm trying to tell you is that the whole point of this class was interdisciplinarity, and it was under attack in the name of anti-DEI. It wasn't a class about DEI topics specifically, but about the very concept of cooperation between every and any academic field. Also, "astrology" is not a degree program, and not DEI coded either. Gender studies, intersectionality, black studies, those are the sorts of things that were cut. Edit: Oh, I see you're a nazi apologist and AI apologist. That explains your pretense of confusion. I'm going to block you now. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 1 child comment replies: [–] hyperion626@lemmy.world 1 point 1 hour ago Lmao. Nazi huh? permalink fedilink source parent [–] HoneyMustardGas@lemmy.world 2 points 8 hours ago* (1 child) If they become overlords, it would only be because people made them as such. Meaning we would have to appoint them. Idiots who believe AI are poison. It's just an overpowered autocorrect guessing the next word. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 1 child comment replies: [–] SarahValentine@pawb.social 1 point 8 hours ago Agreed. AI overlords would not be rogue, they would be working as intended by the psychopathic elites racing to perfect them. permalink fedilink source parent
