The American people (interclass construct) are part of a settler-colonial globe-spanning empire several times larger and older than Israel and rather than do a little self reflection and realize that Israel is America Junior, a byproduct of American foreign policy, propped up almost entirely by American-led imperialism, they would rather conclude that America's main flaw is that it has a "Zionist Occupied Government" (try asking a Palestinian what Zionist occupation actually looks like) and that America would totally be cool and normal if it weren't for the (admittedly very real) Israel lobby.
