Bell Bottoms seem to go in and out of style periodically. Wikipedia thinks there was a revival in the late 90s, and another in fashion circles in the early 2020s.

It is weirdly hard to find a vintage photo of bell bottoms that isn't AI generated. I rejected about 5 in a row which failed an online AI tester. I think the one below is legit.

  • Incidentally, this is why the waist size of men's pants today is always a few inches smaller than the actual measurement (for example I wear W33 pants but the actual circumference of my waist around my hips is 36"), it's not vanity sizing like is often claimed. The "W" used to be the actual waist, much higher around the abdomen, but they kept that notional size even as the top of mens' pants migrated downward over the decades.

There was a comic back in the '80s who had a routine about how as men get older their pants migrate upwards until eventually their belts are around their chins. But what he was really observing was that men just keep the same fashion sense throughout their entire lives, and the old men of the 1980s had been young men in the 1930s and '40s when waists were much higher.
