just leave it in an envelope with your other important documents on file. i dont get why people carry it around

    Have these people never had to take care of any sort of important document? Like how do you treat contracts or education certificates?

    Education certificates? Those are mostly useless after you've got your first post-college job. And the majority of people have never and will never sign a contract where a paper copy will be required in the future.

    I used to think this way, but apparently they can be kind of important if you're planning on moving internationally.

    Also, something I never really thought about until it happened to my friend, but universities do close down sometimes. So you might not always be able to get a new copy of your degree...

    I've never heard that advice and the only people I've ever known to carry it were white children

    It's useful when you're opening a bank account but social security cards don't have photos so cops don't care. If you have a photo ID, the card is useless. If you only have the card, that's useless, too.
