It's been 48 years since the transplant, he's still alive, and the organ has not failed. He hasn't been alive 100 years but that kidney has been. permalink fedilink source parent [–] dat@lemmy.ml 8 points 4 weeks ago 64 year old man with a 100 year old kidney permalink fedilink source parent [–] Waterpumpee@lemmus.org 5 points 4 weeks ago (1 child) If she'd be 100 by now then the kidney is too. She was 52 at transplantation in 1978. a kidney being 100 is nothing new as people age over 100 regularly. I guess its some combination of bio age, transplantation age which marks the record? permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 1 child comment replies: [–] trebach@sh.itjust.works 1 point 4 weeks ago Right. She was 52 when she donated it to her son and it's been 48 years since the transplant date. permalink fedilink source parent [–] crazyminner@lemmy.ml 2 points 4 weeks ago His mom was probably 30 or 40 years old when she donated her kidney. And now he's 60 to 70. So that's where the 100 years comes from. permalink fedilink source parent
