In the viewpoint of timelines where going back creates a new one, imagine how people feel at the start of this movie in that timeline. The probe comes to Earth, causing devastation because basically its children had been exterminated, and people there see Kirk and the rest show up from Vulcan to save the day. And then they warp off... leaving them to deal with a doomed Earth. Thanks, Kirk.

Anyone who knows they showed up then vanished would know they're at least attempting to help, and didn't just nope out.

But also from their perspective Kirk & Co head towards the sun, then after a few seconds show back up

That's what I mean, it depends on if them changing the past makes a new timeline. If it does (which seems canon after the 2009 movie) then no one comes back to the original to save them.

This is actually mentioned in the movie, though breifly. In 2 he gets antique glasses from Bones for a birthday present and then in 4 he sells them to an antique dealer and says to Spock after being questioned about them being a present “they will be again” implying that there is only one timeline.
