I set up a public game night for a non profit organization. The event space has a bar on one side and Pizza and snacks are available. All ages are welcome as the bar side is segregated from where the gaming area is. We posted it in some FB local groups and I found some local subreddits and discord servers. I even made an Instagram account but it flagged my flyer as spam. It's a smallish town with about 14k people but near a much bigger college town by about 30 minutes. I'm at a loss as what to do since I'm going to give it a go this week too. We discussed having a vintage video game competition such as an old arcade game. Am I missing something or are game nights just not that popular?

Yeah if I saw this just around with no extra info I'd probably ignore it. Maybe including pics of what games to expect would help. Obviously when posted on the sites you mentioned and others like Meetup you can be more specific, but vagueness hurts. Like I check the Meetup app for things in my area and the things I go to state what exactly is there (for gaming is was Mario Kart 8 Deluxe casually and others are movie groups where the film is in the title).

"Bring your own" probably also turns people away cause they don't know the crowd and might worry about things getting stolen or lost. Combine that with the vagueness and it comes off as nothing is available. Even the vague boardgame group I tried had examples in the title "Come play Uno, Rummikub, and more!" At least gave me an idea of what to expect with them.

I agree this looks a bit vague to what this is. It needs some more text on the side or bottom to describe what this even actually is, maybe even photography from places happened before. To me flyers make sense, if its already widely known and this is just a reminder to when and where to come, not why or what it is. And the big Bring your Own! sounds like its a must, because the "or" is very small compared to it that one may miss the connection.

Ideally there is a website for people to visit, maybe even with a QR code to scan.
