Its a legacy thing. He knows he can't cheat death and he wants to be remembered.

Even if some great fascist leader emerged from the vacuum he leaves, they will blame the coming shitpocalypse on Trump. Frankly he deserves the blame, but my point is neither side of politics is going to remember him fondly.
