He apparently abused his wife and children. There's been some pushback on the left from people who care about those things, but I've not seen a lot of mainstream media care about it.

Wouldn't surprise me if he had always been shitty, but also turning hard right is what a lot of abusers do. Overall, I think he just made a movie.
