They make pretty great pets, actually. They're a lot like sugar gliders, except they don't die if the room gets below 70F, they happily live without a companion (sugar glidders can die of loneliness), and have a pretty varied diet (SGs have a very specific diet).
I would have gotten one as my first adult pet if the cat distribution system hadn't found me first.
The ones I've met love people, especially flying from high places onto your shoulder.
