Driscoll's business model is basically like this:

  1. Have access to largest buyer of berries in the US (Walmart, as well as others) and monopolize berry contracts for all walmart stores

  2. Have a monopoly of the genetics of the berries Walmart is contracted to buy.

  3. Sell berry seeds, etc to farmers up front so all the risk of growing (crop failure, contamination, etc) is placed squarely on the growers and not on Driscoll. The farmers can actually owe Driscoll money if they can't harvest.

  4. Monopolize the distribution rights for what the farmers produce
