It keeps getting worse. I can't predict or even imagine what will happen, this sort of complete failure of education is unprecedented. (thelemmy.club)

As always, to be clear, I'm not blaming teachers. It's admin and above forcing teachers to pass students and tying their hands.

    Parents are 100% the problem. You need to instill a sense of wonder, a willingness to learn, and some notion of a work ethic well before the kids first enter school. Like racism and misogyny, stupidity is learned.

    As I like to say "little shits grow up to be big shits"

    And there a lot of big shits around. One of them is president of the US.

    On a brighter note my friend with kids who are about 11 years old had to explain to their kids what racism even is and that there were wars fought over skin color. The kids were very confused and said "that is just sutupid. Why would it matter what color they are ?" (This was prompted because the kids have a half black friend and someone said something about it)

    But yeah. I'm not even old and I really sound like a boomer but I'm seriously scared for most kids of today, raised by an iPad programmed with malicious intent to addict them and make them worship corpos, its ingrained in them now.

    Totally, it can happen (I also came from a death cult family who is now 100% maga, hardly talk to them now) but let's be honest, who people are at 13-16 is who they are their whole life 98% of the time. Even look at music taste. The large majority never listen to anything outside what they liked at 16.

    This is not a us-only problem.

    TikTok brain rotted kids with an attention span of 20 seconds is a worldwide problem.

    Classes having a low bar for passing, so basically every student passes happens in many countries.

    Parents doing the opposite of helping the education system happens in many countries.

    I don't think it's any one group's fault. Everyone has been getting progressively more stressed - the parents, the kids, the teachers, and even administrators. Budgets are getting tighter. Teachers and school administrators are being paid less and there is more expected of them. It all contributes.

    If you need someone to blame, blame the ultra wealthy. They are hoarding all of the money, propagandizing us against each other, ignoring existential threats, demanding fewer taxes, and push for longer hours for the rest of us.

    Usually the ones in power are to blame for the policy/lack therefor of which leave those who are doing daily interactions with others are left to fend for themselves. We always need to direct our malcontent and constructive urge to promote change towards those who hold actual power!
