IMO the big problem with democracy is just how we structure it, in most of the world it's still using a system designed for an age where everyone was busy farming and it took representatives 3 weeks to travel to the capital.

like, 4-year terms are obviously insane, right? Things happen way too fucking fast for it to make sense that a guy gets to be in charge for 4 fucking years and we just can't do shit if it turns out they were lying.

And the reprensentative system also obviously doesn't work, no one knows their representatives, they aren't representing shit. A human cannot represent thousands of people, we literally don't have the fucking mental capacity or time for that!
Representatives should be way way way way way way way way... way way way way more local, they should be someone you can literally discuss things with over a cup of coffee, someone you can actually comfortably call if you're worried about a piece of legislation.

The current situation in the US is obviously terrible, but things are happening in democracies structured differently too. Look at the AfD rising in Germany. And they even have a fancy voting system with proportional representation!

Like do people have America exceptionalism in how exceptionally bad it is, too?
