I think the time will come when people will be forced to take alternative commutes.

Alternative commutes do not exist in most of USA.

    Imagine an America where gas prices are high and physical shortages are common. That's the future I'm envisioning. I understand alternatives aren't present, but people just biking to work is the alternative I'm envisioning.

    what kind of climate do you live in? where i am, weather is a huge barrier to micromobility for months out of the year.

    well, tornado seaon brings weeks of torrential thunderstorms at least twice a year, and winter brings subzero temps for months. add the fact that many people have at least a 30 min commute by car, and missing even one day of work gets you fired, and it becomes an impossble hurdle.
